Exhibition and shooting – BMW Luxury Excellence Pavillon during the 67th Berlin International Film Festival

Freitag, 03. März 2017

090602_15_31_36

The BMW Luxury Excellence Pavillon is a temporary pavilion showcasing the BMW brand’s extensive expertise in contemporary luxury, innovative technologies, high-quality design and fine craftsmanship and had its world premiere in Berlin during the 67th Berlin International Film Festival. This one-of-a-kind pop-up store built in the classical modern style fitted perfectly into the expansive landscape of the Ministerial Gardens, in the very heart of the German capital.

With the BMW Luxury Excellence Pavilion and the floating geometry of its timeless and elegant architecture, BMW is adopting a new approach to reach out to an urban luxury-conscious target group. The fully-variable modular design of the pop-up pavilion concept means that temporary brand displays can be set up at or near relevant targeted events.

Ken Schluchtmann was not only invited to photograph the project but to present his award-winning photography project “Architecture and landscape in Norway” exclusively in the BMW Pavilion so that a private viewing of his work completed this fascinating experience of contemporary luxury.

After Berlin, the BMW Luxury Excellence Pavilion and the exhibition will be deployed around the globe at events that are relevant for the target group. Planned stops are Moscow and St. Petersburg (Russia), Porto Cervo (Sardinia, Italy), Toronto (Canada) and in Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands.

Next Stop is Warsaw (Poland), starting from 9th of march.

Creating living spaces that meet the different needs of seniors is one of the great challenges of our times, considering that the population’s average age is increasing and the social structure is also changing.
The “Haus Mattiasgärten” facility of the advita association that provides services and care for the elderly recently opened in the Friedrichshain district in Berlin. It’s a 48-apartment residential building designed by con-tura architekten, with no architectural barriers, where each unit is between 25 and 53 square metres and the facilities include community spaces and “on demand” healthcare on the ground and mezzanine floors writes a whole new chapter for this category of architecture. It was built by developer Kondor Wessels at the entrance of the Volkspark park and near the Vivantes Klinikum hospital.

„Inside Out“ – Palais de Tokyo Paris, Triennale der Photographie Hamburg

Montag, 02. November 2015

090602_15_31_36

Glasgow-born, Berlin-based designer Leigh Sachwitz’s Studio for Design flora&faunavisions GmbH has created a mesmerizing interactive experience called “Insideout” for the „Photography Playground“ at the Triennale der Photographie in Hamburg. It is a 360° multimedia installation that explores the house as a sanctuary and as a safe haven from nature’s many forces.

Inside the greenhouse-like illuminated installation, the viewer experiences nature’s many forces by hearing the rain and watching the dark clouds gather above, and when the protective walls disappear, the participant will feel exposed and vulnerable in the eye of the storm. But then, once the storm has passed, there is a feeling of purity and freshness, and an overall sense of calm envelopes the participant.

The visual installation is accompanied by sound design by the Berlin-based award-winning composer, musician and producer Andi Toma, one of the founding members of the electronic music collaboration Mouse on Mars.

On 28 October the “Perspective Playground“ has opened at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. The art installations of this new exhibition is curated and produced by flora&faunavisions for the lead agency VITAMIN E – and the client OLYMPUS Europe. Installations from internationally renowned artists, included INSIDEOUT, transport you into a fascinating and playful world of art and science that spans several floors of this renowned Paris museum – one of the top 5 in the world for contemporary art, again photographed by Ken Schluchtmann who underlines the visual impact of the artworks.

Jining Science & Technology Center, China

Montag, 29. Juni 2015

The Jining Science & Technology Center is the central building of the new high-tech development area in Shandong province, reflecting a modern and sustainable approach to design. The vision of the Science Center was to create a project that represents the spirit of the high-tech industry by combining education, science, business and entertainment.

This project identity is the circle-shaped horizontal array of buildings with the consistent height of each structure and the outstanding seemingly continuous outer façade across each building. It represents the approach of logon-architecture to design beyond the aesthetics of the facade, but with functional implications and sustainability principles of energy-efficiency and preservation.

Essay for “Architecture on the Web. A critical approach to communication”

Montag, 15. Dezember 2014

090602_15_31_36

“The Value of the Image” is the title of the contribution architectural photographer Ken Schluchtmann has written for “Architecture on the Web. A critical approach to communication”, edited by Paolo Schianchi. A book which deals with the communication of architecture in the web era where the image has become an object. Photographers are fundamental to this new way of communication, because they are the ones with the tough task of displaying the content of the architect’s work.

Exhibition Building Images, London – the world’s best architectural photographers

diephotodesigner.de become „World Architectural Photographer of the Year 2013“

Mittwoch, 09. Oktober 2013

090602_15_31_36

At the World Architectural Festival (WAF) in Singapore diephotodesigner.de become again „World Architectural Photographer of the Year 2013“ by winning the „Arcaid Images Archtiectural Photography Awards“.

“In Schluchtmann’s image the viewer experiences a sense of terror at how the raw power of nature appears to overwhelm the fragile manmade structures clinging to the cliff edge. Confronted by this elemental energy, humanity appears totally insignificant. All we can do is gasp in awe. It reminds me of that famous German Romantic painting by Caspar David Friedrich ‘Wanderer Above a Sea of Fog’. It’s extremely compelling and dramatic, yet it also has a quiet intensity and beauty in its muted colours and soft light. It doesn’t shout to get your attention but is nonetheless an exquisitely riveting image that touches your emotions in a way that goes well beyond its obvious technical accomplishment.” – Catherine Slessor, The Architectural Review

Winning the award for the second time (after 2012) makes us very happy. This even more as we got four pictures in three categories shortlisted. Many thanks to the jury rewarding our work in this way.

This year’s judges were: Zaha Hadid, Ivan Harbour, Catherine Slessor, Eva Jiricna and Graham Stirk.

The Trollstigen Project

Montag, 01. Oktober 2012

090602_15_31_36

The project enhance the experience of the Norwegian Trollstigen plateau’s location and nature. Thoughtfulness regarding features and materials underscores the site’s temper and character, and well-adapted, functional facilities augment the visitor’s experience. The architecture is to be characterised by clear and precise transitions between planned zones and the natural landscape. Through the notion of water as a dynamic element – from snow, to running and then falling water – and rock as a static element, the project creates a series of prepositional relations that describe and magnify the unique spatiality of the site.

PATH is a work created by young Icelandic artist Elín Hansdóttir.

Hansdóttir built a narrow tunnel that zig-zags through the gallery space. Light only comes through vertical and horizontal slits that appear as cracks in the construction. The Path changes rapidly upon sharp edges and disarranges the visitors.

It was shown in the Berlin Gallery Maribel Lopez and the Islandic National Gallery and was part of the exhibition „RETHINK – Contemporary Art & Climate Change“ in Copenhagen.
